Are place cards an essential item for your reception tables?
Posted on 16/04/12, filed under Fresh News | No CommentsHow many of us planning a wedding have slaved over table plans long into the night arranging and rearranging who sits on what table and who they sit next to only to be told 'He won't sit next to her!' The allocation of seats and tables can be a very difficult task especially with more and more extended families nowadays.
It would seem however that more and more brides are opting for a less formal approach and are simply having open tables for all their guests and leaving them to decide exactly where they sit.
This works in theory but there are a number of pitfalls to this solution. Imagine sitting down to dinner to discover that your closest family members were seated at the rear of the room or the bridal party have nowhere to sit down!
I recently attended a wedding where the bride and groom had decided not to allocate seating to anyone, including the wedding party. By the time the the bride and groom entered the room there was nowhere for them to sit – guests had to move to allow them to sit down!
Maybe the best solution would be to allocate tables for the bridal party and close family members with pre-determined seating?
The rest of your guests could then simply be allocated a table allowing guests to decide where to sit at the table. Table plans are essential in these circumstances and the ones you can print yourself at home are one of the cheapest and most cost effective way to do this – if you're having a sit-down meal and the caterers need to know who is who why not simply write the place cards and leave them in the centre of the table for your guests to pick up once they're settled?
What do you think? Are place cards essential for every guest? What are you going to do at your wedding?
