Perfect for children’s parties or vintage weddings are our little pockets of joy. These are pretty handkerchiefs that can either be handmade from a larger sheet of fabric, if you have the skills, or can be bought in bulk from the Internet in a design that matches your theme. Once you have these sorted find some event appropriate sweet treats to wrap within the hankies and finish with a cardboard label tied with ribbon. Retro sweets like love hearts or jelly bellies tend to please everyone and they get a bonus treat of a beautiful handkerchief to keep when the sweets have been devoured.

Staying on the theme of foodie gifts why not consider getting all ‘Delia’ in the kitchen and batch produce a few different flavours of jam, pickles and chutney. These look very quaint and distinctive for dressing tables and you can guarantee your guests will be swapping and bargaining with each other so don’t panic too much about who gets what. Display your freshly made delights in a variety of sized jam jars with quality seals to reduce the chances of spillage on the journey home. Top with fabric covers or snazzy pre-printed lids to ensure your favours stand out.

High quality oil is expensive, however, regular old olive oil can be transformed into sweet looking keepsakes for your wedding or party by the addition of pretty herbs. Buy some dainty test tubes or mini bottles with cork stoppers and fill them up to about the three quarter point. Then add a sprig of pretty rosemary and let the oil become fragranced by it. This will really pack a punch when your guests choose to use it within their cooking or even for beauty care.

Everyone likes to pamper themselves (might be worth noting the next favour is definitely more geared towards adults) and this next idea is perfect for spoiling your guests. Create your own mixture of bath salts by mixing Epsom salts, sea salts, lavender grain and a few drops of essential oil. This beautiful concoction can be presented in fabric bags, jars, bottles or small boxes, as long as they are air tight to ensure the salts don’t dry out. These are a very thoughtful addition to any occasion and are completely different to the usual edible favours.
