Although not the most exciting element of Wedding planning it is one of the most important parts. Churches are of course registered to hold weddings as are many hotels and other more obscure venues but you will still need to apply for a marriage license and book a registrar if getting married in a place other than a church. Couples hoping to hold their wedding in a church will usually have to opt for the one most local to them and will be expected to attend Sunday services for at least 6 weeks prior to the wedding. It is possible to get married in a church outside of the parish in which you live but it would be dependent on the Vicar in charge of the church in question. Once a church has been confirmed you will be required to have your Banns read which is the public announcement in a Christian parish church of an impending marriage between two specified persons. If opting for a civil ceremony who will need to attend an interview at your local council office and give public notice of your intention to marry. This will be will be publicly displayed in the register office for 28 days and if no one objects you are free to marry and a license will be granted.
