Summer Themed Wedding Inspiration

The summer sun is out in force, beating down its warm rays and brightening all our spirits. If fact if you close your eyes you almost feel like you’re laying on a tropical beach somewhere far more exotic than good old blighty.

So for those of you planning a summer wedding why not take advantage of this recent hot spell and opt for an elegant English Garden Party theme? Think muted, pastel tones, rustic table decorations, decadent tea, finger sandwiches and vintage sweet carts and birdcages.

The Dress

If you were opting to get married in the midst of summer a lightweight dress would be best as too much material could result in a hot and uncomfortable bride. Also remember if you decide on the English Garden Party theme that a large chunk of your day will be spent outside. Stuck for ideas, here’s a selection of stunning dresses that we thought would be suitable:

The Colour Theme

To me, when I think English Garden Party I think of pastel colours, primarily a muted pale green colour.

Summer Garden Flowers

A summer wedding wouldn’t be complete without an assortment of colourful flowers! Don’t be afraid to mix and match different types of flowers and colours and display them around the venue as well as in your own bouquet and the bridal party. Flowers that spring to mind to suit the theme are gypsophilla, hydrangea’s and garden roses. All these will create a striking, summery display.

The Groom & Ushers

Pick a suit that matches your colour scheme although I’m not suggesting you dress your husband-to-be head-to-toe in pale green or pastel pink. It’s more about picking out a section of the suit and teaming it with a complementary or matching colour. The waistcoats for example could be green or the cravats.

Bridesmaids Dresses

Strapless or sleeves? Short or long? Different colours, same style or different style, same colour – the choices are endless, but similarly to when selecting your own dress, pick a style or material that will be comfortable for your girls to wear for the entire occasion.

The Cake

When it comes to the flavour of the cake, Fruit is of course tradition but that doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with other flavours. If you opt for a 3-tier cake you might decide on three different fillings. Or you could go down a more rustic route in keeping with the English Garden Party Theme and have a cheesecake of either the sweet or savoury kind – or both, it’s your day after all!
