5 Great Wedding Games

wedding games

Apart from lovely wedding favours wedding receptions can be difficult for people who don’t enjoy jigging along to cheesy 80’s tunes or even a live band, so for those guests we have found a few games that you can offer them. Although some of these will be child friendly we have another post on how to make your wedding more child friendly that contains some alternative options so make sure you have a read of that too!

Cocktail hour is a sure fire way to encourage family and friends to get to one another. For one hour only offer a menu of specialty cocktails (we also have a post coming soon with tips on reception drinks for your guests, we are too good to you!) to tempt your guests to enjoy themselves and ogle at the mixologist throwing the bottles around.

Wedding guest bingo may sound a bit cringe worthy, however, it can be really funny and also insightful, teaching everyone unusual facts about one another. This works by asking your guests to send you an interesting fact about them when they RSVP to your invite. You can then go away and collate these into little bingo cards, which can be distributed amongst the tables on the day. Ask a confident member of the family to be your master of ceremonies and give out the clues to the audience, letting them know whom the interesting fact was about. Similarly to the actual game, the first person to get a full house wins a prize.

Having a laugh at the bride and groom goes without saying and this game is perfect for that! The Shoe Game is pretty much the same as Mr and Mrs, the tv programme. Incase you’re not familiar with it, the bride and groom sit back to back and a chosen, very brave, family member asks questions of the couple. They have to hold one of their own shoes and one belonging to their partner and in answer to the question they hold up a shoe to represent their answer. Start off with kind ‘who said I love you first?’ kind of questions and build up to controversial ‘who is the better driver?’ style ones. The room will be in stitches we promise you.

If you are blessed with outdoors space and good weather at your reception venue then why not have some good old fashioned fun with oversized board games. Jenga, Scrabble, Twister, Snakes & Ladders, they’re all-available and are guaranteed to give an insight into how competitive each side of the family really is! Croquet, mini golf and cricket are also brilliant, if traditional, but bring some British fun to your wedding and they’re certain to mean some fantastic photos.

Finally, get your guests to do some detective work by keeping them busy at the reception. Place cards on every table with a list of items you want the guests to find and capture using the cameras on their phones (drunk relative, family members favour etc). Get them to post them on Instagram, or a similar app, so that you and your new partner can judge the submissions at a later date and send out a prize.
